Stories from Peru, Mexico, Brazil and Colombia win Save the Children Journalism Award for Latin America and the Caribbean 2024
Panama, November 19, 2024. Save the Children's Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean, in partnership with the Inter American Press Association and the Gabo Foundation, announced the winners of the third edition of the Save the Children Journalism Award for Latin America and the Caribbean, a contest that seeks to promote journalism that gives a voice to children and adolescents in the region, placing their interests, situations, problems, problems and their stories on the public agenda.
In a virtual ceremony, Save the Children awarded the 4 best journalistic works in radio, television, digital, and printed press. The theme of this award is the promotion, defense, and/or violation of the rights of children and adolescents in Latin America and the Caribbean.
Andrés, an adolescent from Peru, highlighted during the award ceremony:
“I want to thank all the journalists who gave their time to investigate about children and adolescents. I am sure you have realized that talking about children and adolescents in Latin America is complicated because of the different issues we go through, political or social issues in which we are often excluded from society. And the fact that you, journalists, are investigating this is an important step”.
A group of jurors, composed of Renata Cabrales, a journalist representing the Gabo Foundation, Mariana Belloso, a journalist representing the Inter-American Press Association, and Monica Kuljich, Save the Children's Regional Director of Communication and Media for Latin America and the Caribbean, was in charge of selecting the best works.
