Safety nets and resilient families

COVID-19, climate change and conflict threaten children's rights, increase inequality, and aggravate the conditions of poverty experienced by millions of children in the region.

Child poverty affects the guarantee of children's rights and the coverage of their basic needs, such as food, health, and protection. At Save the Children, we want to ensure that children’s needs can be met through social security and cash transfer programs and that children’s rights are at the centre of what we do.

We want to change power dynamics and allow families to decide how to manage money while expanding our ability to make cash transfers, provide our nutrition and protection services, and strengthen families' capacities to be resilient in humanitarian emergencies and climate change.

In addition, we will advocate for governments to invest in social protection systems and universal benefits per child. We will advocate, hand in hand with children and adolescents in the region, for policies to protect the environment and reduce climate change and to ensure their diverse needs are at the centre of our locally focused response.
