CALL TO THE STATES TO GUARANTEE THE RIGHT TO LIVE WITH A FAMILY

The World Movement for Children of Latin America and the Caribbean (MMI-LAC), a strategic alliance that brings together the main organizations and networks that work to promote, protect and defend the rights of children and adolescents in the region, calls on governments and authorities specialized in the protection of children and adolescents, to apply all the required measures and guarantee the following minimum guidelines for action:

1. Adopt the human rights approach in all decisions to be taken

2. Identify and prioritize protection responses for the most vulnerable children and adolescents

3. Protect children and adolescents in alternative care

4. Identify the needs and provide the required support to host families and children and adolescents who are in this alternative care modality

5. Ensure permanent access to basic and protection services for children, adolescents and their families

6. Prevent the unnecessary separation of children and adolescents from their families or main caregivers

7. Ensure the investment of resources in systems for the comprehensive protection of children and adolescents

8. Ensure child and adolescent participation
